A message from BeaBea’s owner – Tracey Carr

Hello!

Customers often ask us how BeaBea started so if you’ve ever wondered, this is the story!

I started BeaBea as I was so disappointed with the quality of clothes that were available in the UK for the plus sized market. I’ve been every dress size from a 16 on up to around 40 stone and a size 50+. I’m currently around a size 36 but the only thing that hasn’t changed over time is my love of fashion and good clothes. I love luxurious fabrics and bright colours and believe that flattering cutting and quality workmanship should be available to everyone. Size is no barrier to looking good!

We began in 2004 trading under the name Femme Fatale Designs. It soon became apparent that a name change was needed. We wanted something positive that celebrated everything that was Big and Beautiful, so BeaBea sort of invented itself.

BeaBea was launched with a revised website and sales suddenly went through the roof! We recruited some new staff and moved into Studio space in a Grade 2 listed cotton mill in Stockport.

We’re still growing fast though and space is once again starting to become limited – not least because I cant resist buying rolls of fabric when I find something I fall in love with!

The Office and Showroom space are now squeezed in behind the cutting tables, pattern racks and sewing machines that you can see in the picture and at the moment we can only receive callers by appointment.

We love putting faces to all the lovely customers we talk to on the phone but if you’re thinking of coming to see us do please call and let us know. That way we can make sure the kettles hot when you arrive!

So, what’s next for BeaBea? Well we have so many plans I hardly know where to start. If you’re reading this then it must mean our new website is up and running! We also have lots more beautiful designs and fabrics waiting in the wings which we cant wait to show you. We’re working on adding a page of customer pictures so you can see how our clothes look on real people – and talking of which we are still trying to find a way to give some of you a chance to model for us.
